Pre-launch

The road to 1.0

Orris Bench is being built in the open. This is the whole workflow of making a fragrance, part by part, in two passes: what is built, and what has since been put through its paces by hand at a real bench. It is generated from the same map the developers work against, so it says nothing the software cannot back up.

Pre-launch. One release a year, and features may change as perfumers tell us what they need. Everything below ships in version 1.0.

Phase 1

Development: what is built

The workflow of making a fragrance, stage by stage. Each named feature below exists in the application today. What is still to come is given as a count per stage rather than a list, because this page is a progress report and not a specification for somebody else to build from.

Phase 2

Testing: what has been proven at the bench

Built is not the same claim as trusted, so this pass is counted separately. Every feature above is being worked through by hand on a working bench: does it do what it was meant to do, and does the screen around it read properly. Automated tests run on every change and are not what this measures, because a passing test has never once been proof that a screen behaves.

Running alongside it, a second pass: real bench data entered by hand, a material and a bottle at a time, because a screen that behaves on a fixture does not always behave on a shelf that has been in use for years.
